Poll Herefords
The Te Taumata Poll Hereford herd is based on 55 years of breeding cattle for the New Zealand commercial cattleman and beef industry. Bulls are available for sale at our annual on-farm auction at the end of May. We also offer a couple of top quality bulls at the National Hereford Sale at the New Zealand Beef Expo in Feilding each year.
We love having visitors and getting to know other hereford breeders from around New Zealand and world-wide. If you would like to know more about our management practices and breeding programme, give us a call or come and see us anytime. December/January is a great time to come and see our cows with their calves at foot.
Breeding Objectives
Our objective is to breed highly productive, highly profitable beef cattle for New Zealand’s pasture based breeding/fattening systems.
Our cattle work for a living. They compete with sheep on our summer-dry, winter wet rolling hills at very high district stocking rates.
We use pedigree and performance/EBV information alongside strict structural and phenotype assessement to select our female replacements. Constitution, fast growth rates, fertiltiy, carcass quality, and quality udders are essential. We strongly believe that a great line-up of sale bulls is the product of a top performing cow herd.
