Breeding Program
The Te Taumata Poll Hereford herd is based on top genetics from New Zealand, Australia and North America. We research bulls and bloodlines to select the sires that will most complement our breeding objectives. In early years, live sires were imported from Australia to enhance our primarily New Zealand bloodlines. More recently we use domestic and imported semen from progressive Hereford breeding programs. We also use our own top young sires from consistent performing females.
Te Taumata stud and commercial bulls are sold throughout New Zealand and semen is available for international export. Bulls are sold each year in June at our annual on-farm auction and at the New Zealand Beef Expo in Feilding in May.
We welcome pre-sale inspections and enquiries and are happy to discuss clients' individual bull requirements. Current sale information is available on the Bulls for Sale page.

Breeding Objectives
Our primary objective is to breed productive, profitable beef cattle that will perform well throughout New Zealand from dry hill country environments to high rainfall, more fertile country. Our clients are mainly self-replacing cow herds and we are committed to building long-term relationships with our bull buyers. We utilise pedigree and performance information alongside visual selection to select our female replacements.
We take a balanced approach to our breeding programme with emphasis on the following traits:
·Doing ability/constitution
·Structural soundness
·Muscling and carcass traits
·Growth rate
·Milking ability
·Calving ease
·Temperament
