About Te Taumata

Te Taumata is situated at Gladstone, in the Wairarapa region of the North Island of New Zealand, 16 km SE of Masterton and 1.5 hours drive north of Wellington.

Te Taumata is a rolling hill country property in the driest area of the Wairarapa. The climate is very dry in summer and wet in the winter on primarily clay-based soils; average rainfall of less than 700 mm (28 inches).

Trading as McWilliam Stud Stock, we run 115 Poll Hereford breeding cows, 500 Romney ewes, 150 Border Leicester ewes and all female replacements. All seedstock are registered through the appropriate breed associations and are performance recorded. All livestock at Te Taumata are run at high district stocking rates under strictly commercial dry-land farming conditions, with large numbers of young priority stock classes. These conditions allow for selection of breeding stock with constitution and resilience under extreme conditions and with growth and performance for maximum profitibality in more favourable farming environments.

We focus on the production of sound functional animals with genetics for optimum performance and maximum profitability. It is important to us to provide all of our clients with hard-working sires, profitable genetics and good advice.  This is the basis for developing strong, long-term relationships with our clients.

In the seedstock industry there is a lot of propaganda and politics.  If you would like to know more about our management practices and breeding programmes feel free to visit us any time to have a personal tour or phone Alistair on 06 372 7861 to discuss our programme.  Honesty and integrity are extremely important to us and we strongly believe that this is the backbone of any good breeding programme.
